Trying the Time Use Challenge definitely helped my husband and me find ways we can improve our quality of life. It made us both realize that there are ways he can get more involved in caretaking responsibilities, like bedtime routines, watching the kids while I work, and letting me get more downtime.
I’ve encouraged all my friends to give it a try, too. You never know what the data might reveal—and what conversation it might spark.”

Corinne Low’s Time Tracker
Partner Version
If you think you might need to rebalance the household load, this tracker gives you data to start the conversation. Track your and your partner’s time for one week to assess the balance of housework, childcare, leisure, and work in your relationship. The graphs will give you a breakdown of which tasks might be invisible to one partner, and what might need to shift. More information on how to use and get the most out of the time tracker is in Chapter 8 of Having It All!
Individual Version
If you're trying to dedicate more time to activities that bring you joy and meaning, this tracker lets you track your own time over a month to distinguish between high-value work, leisure, household, and kid time, and time that leaves you feeling depleted or disappointed. The graphs at the end will let you visualize how your time evolves over a month as you experiment with shifting the balance among different activities. More information on how to use and get the most out of the time tracker is in Chapter 8 of Having It All!
